"AIY, YIY, YIY, YIY  - MONTENEGRO - A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY!!!!"

That was the refrain of Miro, our Montenegran guide during this 7 day jeep trip in Montenegro. Montenegro is one of the countries carved out of what was Yugoslavia.  It has a population of about 600,000 people and is about half the size of New Jersey.  It is federated with Serbia, its larger neighbor to the north, and it is indeed a beautiful country.  Miro is a Montenegran with a dream. He wants to help his country develop by encouraging tourism.  He runs his own tourism agency and knows the entire country like the back of his hand. Miro knows everybody, and everybody knows Miro.

This was our third jeep trip, and the first with the MEDRAFT company.  It was the smallest group we have been with and this turned out to be a great benefit.  We were only 9 people, and we fit into 3 jeeps.  This made for a fast moving group and allowed us to see more than a larger group would have.  Also, and just as important, we all got along, and we had a great trip and made some new friends.  We did have some problems with 2 of the jeeps, but we never broke down completely, and Miro did everything in his power to keep us moving.

Our Israeli guide was Avshalom.  Avshalom is a geologist by formal training and clearly loves Montenegro.  It is a country full of geological wonders, and we learned a lot of new things from Avshalom.  His knowledge of the geology, history and geography of Montenegro  made our trip very interesting.   He was a dedicated guide and he also enjoyed the fact that the group was small and intimate.

Our trip started and ended in Dubrovnik, in Croatia.  Croatia and Montengro have very strained relations, and crossing the border between them is no simple task.  We spent the first  and the last day of our seven days on a very tired Montenegran bus and five full days in jeeps. We visited the Boka Kotarska Fjord in southwestern Montenegro, Kotor, the old capitol of Tsetine, the current capitol of Podgorica, but the main sights were in the 2 national parks of Biogradsk, and Durmitor.
