Alisa and I have been traveling for as long as we have known each other.  In fact, that's how we met - while I was traveling with my job. We'd like to share some of our experiences with you.  Perhaps, we can help you in planning your next trip.
We started traveling a lot more during the last few years. (The kids have left the nest.)  We have a few simple rules which we go by - we avoid as much as possible organized tours (except for special circumstances), and we don't like to run from place to place without getting to know an area for a few days.  I (Steve) do all the planning and use the internet to learn about an area and find interesting hotels and restaurants. Sometimes, I try to find people from the area we're going to visit and chat with them on the web - using travel forums or chat services.  Web surfers LOVE to help other surfers.  We also try to meet our cyber friends when we get there, and I can say that we've done it several times, and every meeting has been a huge success. I'd also like to mention my favorite travel forums - Fodor's TravelTalk Forums and Tripadvisor Travel Forums which are both great sources for travel information.

We live in Israel, so much, (but not all) of our traveling has been to Europe.  In the last few years, we've been to many European countries, as well as China, Japan, Southeast Asia, South America, Central Asia and a couple of trips to the United States. In 2007 we started visiting the far east, in 2008, we visited Central Asia (Uzbekistan) and in 2009, it was back to Europe with trips to Italy and Scotland. In 2010, we visited Vietnam, France, and Norway. 2011 was a quiet year due to the birth of our second grandchild, with just a couple of short trips to Europe. In 2012, things returned to form. We visited northern Italy, then a cruise on the Baltic and then another wine trip to Alsace, France. 2013 started out with a canceled trip to Bordeaux due to a family problem, and then 2 trips in the second half of the year - Northern Italy, and then a visit to the USA. I  retired in May, 2014, and our first trip after I retired was to southern Germany, and after that, Rioja, Spain and then Sardinia, Italy. In 2015, our first trip was a cruise on the Mediterranean, from Barcelona to Rome. After that, we visited the Czech Republic, and then a fabulous visit to Peru and Machu Picchu. Our first trip in 2016 was to Emilia Romagna in northern Italy, and after that, we tried our luck again in Central Asia with a visit to the Republic of Georgia.   In 2017, our first trip was to Costa Rica and the United States. Unfortunately, the trip was cut short by an accident and we had to return home early, after only 5 days in Costa Rica. I haven't built a page for that trip, and I don't think I ever will. Since that trip to Costa Rica, we have moved on successfully, and later in 2017, we visited France, Madrid, and then a wine trip to Tuscany.  We started out 2018 with a short trip to Malta, a river cruise on the eastern Danube, and most recently 2 weeks in Brittany, France. In 2019, it's back to France and 2 other trips planned.  At the end of 2019, we visited Greece twice, once to Crete, and once to Thessaloniki. And then, covid happened. No trips for 2 years. At the end of those 2 years, in December, 2021, we visited Dubai.  Our second trip "AC" (After Covid), was to Greece for 8 days. Unfortunately covid is still not completely finished, but the world is learning to live with it.
2023 has  rolled in and progressed nicely. In Israel and Europe, Covid has become a thing of the past, and travel has pretty much returned to normal. We started off with a cruise in the eastern Mediterranean, and then a visit to Vienna only a month later. We visited Corfu and Athens (again) in the fall. So, 2023 was quite full!
2024 has been a difficult year, and the only trip we made was a cruise from London to the Atlantic coasts of France and Spain.
It's all described below.
I plan each trip carefully. I present everything here freely. Perhaps you can make use of it on your next trip.
Our life plan is to continue traveling as much as we can and for as long as we can!
